The Mets benefited from a late home run to edge the Cubs 4-2 from Queens. The game was tied at one run apiece in the bottom of the sixth inning until DJ Stewart smashed a three-run homer to break the deadlock.
Sean Reid-Foley earned the win in relief and Jorge Lopez notched his second save of the season despite allowing an earned run in the ninth. New York is third in the NL East at 15-and-14.
Matt Mervis and Miguel Amaya drove in runs for Chicago. Adbert Alzolay got the loss in relief after giving up the go-ahead home run.
The Cubs slipped to second in the NL Central at 18-and-12.
For the second straight night, the Minnesota Twins scored a run in the top of the 9th inning and beat the Chicago White Sox.
The final score Tuesday night was 6-5 as the winning run came in on a sacrifice fly by Max Kepler.
It was Minnesota's 9th straight win.
Andrew Benintendi had 2 home runs for the White Sox. Danny Mendick also had a 2-run homer.
The final game of the 3-game series is Wednesday afternoon in Chicago.
