ROCHELLE – The City of Rochelle has received bids for its 2025 Sidewalk and Pedestrian Path Capital Improvements Program, aimed at upgrading the city’s pedestrian infrastructure. The project includes the replacement and construction of sidewalks, pedestrian paths, and related elements to improve accessibility and meet ADA standards. The program, funded through the Utility Tax Fund (UTF), has addressed over 1.2 million square feet of sidewalk and pedestrian improvements since its inception.
Rochelle City Engineer Sam Tesreau said that it has taken a couple of decades to get ahead.
“So our sidewalk program has been pretty robust, I would say, in the past 20 years when we started out, we were replacing pieces or parts of sidewalk sections, and now we’re doing whole sections at a time,” he said. “Which means that the city gets more bang for its buck.”
Bids were opened on April 3, 2025, with Bruns Construction, Inc. submitting the lowest bid at $340,987.26. The project is expected to be substantially completed by the end of September 2025.
