Lori Lightfoot won't be returning as Chicago's Mayor. Lightfoot lost her re-election bid after finishing third in yesterday's election behind former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas and Cook County Commissioner and Chicago Teachers Union organizer Brandon Johnson. Vallas and Johnson will now face off in an April 4th runoff election. Lightfoot's defeat makes her the city's first one-term mayor in four decades.
Lori Lightfoot is rooting for the next mayor to deliver for the people of Chicago. Lightfoot spoke to her supporters after conceding defeat in yesterday's election. The mayor said her heart is full of gratitude while highlighting how the city emerged from a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic and made real progress on public safety.
