ROCHELLE - The Rochelle Rotary presented the proceeds from an event last month at Luna to the Rochelle Community Action Network on Tuesday afternoon. Rotary representatives gave $4,150, which was raised at a party featuring entertainment by the band Buzzed By Sonset on November 23rd. The funds raised that night included big donations by local sponsors, plus all the proceeds that night were matched by Luna. Owner of Luna, Jim Withers, said that giving back is essential.
"Last year was the first year that I actually personally took part in the CAN event and it was an eye-opener, in a good way" he said. "So I'm more than happy to help out as much as I can and myself as well as a lot of my staff will be personally working the CAN event again this year."
Michelle Pease of CAN said that this is the culmination of a year of fundraising.
"For Rochelle Community Action Network, 100% of that money goes towards the kids. We're a volunteer board, we want kids in our community to participate in that shopping trip," she said.
The annual shopping trip will be December 12th at the First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle for area children in need.
