CRESTON - Time is running out to finish the lead service line survey in Creston. At the Village Trustee meeting Tuesday night, officials urged residents who have not yet done so to get it done sooner than later. Village President Tom Byro emphasizes that the village would be responsible for replacing the service line if it was lead or galvanized.
"This is a federally funded program that we need to get finished up with, and it's a safety thing for the people that are in the house," he said. "If you've got lead pipes in your house coming in, it needs to be fixed."
So far around half of the water connections in the village have been tracked. The original deadline for the data to be turned into the Illinois EPA was April of this year.
