CHICAGO - The price for a gallon of gas rose just three cents to $3.54 from last week. This was an unexpected sluggish response to the holiday travel season that featured a record number of July 4th vacationers and a gulf hurricane in Texas. According to the American Automobile Association, gasoline production increased last week, averaging 10.3 million barrels daily. Illinois comes in higher than the national average, at $3.89 per gallon. Locally, Ogle County and DeKalb County tied for the best value, averaging $3.67 per gallon, followed by Lee County at $3.68 per gallon.
