Maple Park Office Injured After Being Rear-Ended During Traffic Stop

MAPLE PARK - A Maple Park police officer was injured after his patrol vehicle was struck from behind during a traffic stop by an allegedly impaired driver. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office say that around 10:40 PM on Friday they were called to Illinois Route 38 west of Maple Park for the crash that involved three vehicles. They say Officer Jason Richmeier was engaged in a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by a woman from Oak Park with his emergency lights on, when a 62-year-old DeKalb man reportedly collided with the rear of the Maple Park Police SUV. The collision shoved the squad into the vehicle he had stopped. DeKalb County authorities cited Dale L. Martin with DUI, Aggravated Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. Richmeier was taken to an area hospital by the Maple Park Fire Department. No other injuries were reported.
